- François Mussard (1718-1784), often designated by his only patronym, was one of the most famous slave hunters active on the island of Reunion in the course of the 18th century when it was still a French colony of the Indian Ocean known as Bourbon Island. Explorer of the Hauts, he left his name to several remarkable geographical entities, including the Mussard cave. In addition, he appears in several works of fiction, notably in Eugène Dayot's novel entitled Bourbon picturesque, which puts him in conflict with several brown chefs.
